“Financial Resilience: Recovering from Domestic Economic Abuse”
The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) is excited to announce Canada’s first-ever summit dedicated to Domestic Economic Abuse, which will be happening virtually on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The summit will bring together advocates, community services, and the government sector for networking and learning opportunities, as well as to discuss the impact of Economic Abuse and possible solutions for system change. The summit will highlight promising practices and emerging issues to effectively respond to Economic Abuse.
The summit will feature local, national, and international presentations from keynote speakers and a panel of expert practitioners, researchers, and policymakers from a range of disciplines including financial institutions, to discuss how together we can drive conversations and change to improve the lives of women who are most at risk of Economic Abuse. CCFWE’s National Economic Abuse Awareness and Advocacy Campaign “HelpUsRise” 2022 (November 1 - 30, 2022)
Coinciding with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Financial Literacy Month, the Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) is launching its annual #HelpUsRise campaign to raise awareness of Domestic Economic Abuse.
Now in its third year of existence, a national advocacy and awareness campaign to educate survivors, financial institutions, and policymakers about the different economic challenges faced by survivors of domestic violence. In addition, CCFWE reached out to cities across Canada to show their support and proclaim November 26 as Economic Abuse Awareness Day. More than 30 cities have already followed and pledged to raise awareness and advocate for survivors of Economic Abuse.
Throughout November, CCFWE will be sharing content on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to educate and raise awareness about the existing barriers that survivors of Economic Abuse are facing and promising solutions to overcome them.

Canadian Center For Women’s Empowerment National Research Study on Economic Abuse (November 15, 2022)
The Canadian Center for Women’s Empowerment (CCFWE) is currently conducting a research study titled “Understanding the Nature of Economic Abuse: A national study on service provider insights.” to explore the prevalence, perceptions, service barriers, needs, and access of survivors of Economic Abuse as a form of intimate partner violence.
The purpose of this study is to develop educational materials for social service providers, and financial institutions to better support clients experiencing Economic Abuse, and a screening tool for social service providers, legal agencies, and financial institutions. Finally, the survey will help inform CCFWE on advocacy and policy recommendations.
The study’s launch and findings will be presented during CCFWE’s Economic Abuse summit on November 15, 2022.

CCFWE’s Screening Tool on Economic Abuse (February / March 2022)
CCFWE is currently developing a Screening Tool for service providers to better identify and respond to Domestic Economic Abuse. Conducting consultations with women’s shelters and family law practitioners (FLPs) across Canada, CCFWE will use the findings stemming from these conversations to recognize current screening practices, existing barriers, and available resources for victim-survivors of Economic Abuse.
Launching end of February of 2022, the screening tool will assist shelters and FLPs to better recognize and respond to clients experiencing Domestic Economic Abuse.
